SGX Singapore : STI Updates 18th Dec

Market Review for STI:
Shares opened higher with the Straits Times Index at 3,240.51 in early trade, up 0.41 per cent, or 13.28 points. Oil prices edged higher in Asia after data showed US stockpiles dipping, while the Federal Reserve indicated interest rates would not be hiked until the middle of next year. Currently Federal Reserve is not increasing rate so it’s good indication for stock market.

Important Factor for today:-
  • Economists at Wall Street's biggest banks remain convinced the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates by next June and most expect the Fed to tighten policy more than once in 2015, a Reuters poll found after the U.S. central bank wrapped up a policy meeting on Wednesday .
  • EU leaders on Thursday will discuss tense relations with Russia and punishing sanctions imposed over Moscow's actions in Ukraine at a summit led for the first time by Poland's Kremlin-wary former premier Donald Tusk.
  • Mainboard-listed Silverlake Axis (Silverlake) on Thursday revealed that it has formed a company, Silverlake HGH, to launch a takeover offer for Finzsoft Solutions - an Auckland-based financial technology company that develops and implements software and solutions for banks and financial institutions in New Zealand and Australia - at a price of NZ$3 per share.
  • Olam's US$1.3 billion deal to buy rival Archer Daniels Midland's cocoa processing business may reduce liquidity in the niche cocoa bean trade, raising concerns about volatile prices and a potential shake-up of customer relationships.
  • Global Tech (Holdings) incurred a loss of HK$15.99 million (S$2.7 million) for the financial year ended Sept 30, 2014, compared to a net profit of HK$12.88 million made last year.

Market Review for STI:
Share prices opened lower at 3220.13.Asian markets edged up on Wednesday on bargain-hunting, although gains were limited following more losses on Wall Street, while investors await the outcome of a Federal Reserve policy meet. Marked ended with a bullishness at the level of 3227.23.

Important Factor for today:-
  • Singapore's non-oil domestic exports (NODX) grew 1.6 per cent in November from a year earlier, as a jump in pharmaceuticals exports outweighed the fall in electronic shipments, figures by trade agency IE Singapore showed on Wednesday.
  • Market cap of 23 Offshore Marine firms falls 15.7% in a month amid oil rout .Offshore support services firms listed in Singapore have seen their returns decline by more than one-tenth over the year, in line with falling oil prices, with some of the larger companies among these losing more than half of their returns during the same period.
  • Buoyed perhaps by their year-end bonuses and the holiday season, Singapore consumers ended 2014 slightly more optimistic about their finances and the economy
  • Asian markets edged up on Wednesday on bargain-hunting, although gains were limited following more losses on Wall Street, while investors await the outcome of a Federal Reserve policy meeting.
  • Supplies of western-origin fuel oil into Asia in January could hit its highest in nine months, as multi-year low crude prices fuel higher production of oil products in Europe and the America.
  • The Competition Commission of Singapore (CCS) is seeking feedback on the proposed joint venture between the Boeing Company and SIA Engineering Company in Singapore.

Market Review for STI:
Shares gave gap down opening 15.34 points down at 3,278.80. Oil sinks deeper to 7-year lows in Asian trade, Crude prices have plunged roughly 50 per cent since June, weighed down by plentiful supplies, the stronger dollar and weak demand arising from the struggling global economy.

Important Factor for today:-
  • Singapore shares opened lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index at 3,278.80 in early trade, down 0.47 per cent, or 15.34 points.
  • Oil prices sank further to new multi-year lows in Asia Tuesday, with analysts weighing the possible political and economic fallout in oil-producing countries with little respite in the selling. Cheaper executive condominiums (ECs) outsold private condo units by more than two-to-one in November, figures from the Urban Redevelopment Authority showed on Monday.
  • Mainboard-listed Yoma Strategic Holdings said on Tuesday that the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a loan of up to US$100 million (S$131.18 million) to improve infrastructure connectivity needed for sustainable economic growth in Myanmar.
  • Mainboard-listed commodity giant Olam International said on Tuesday it will acquire the global cocoa business of US-based Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) for US$1.3 billion (S$1.71 billion), propelling it to the ranks of the world's top three cocoa processors.
  • Tokyo stocks opened 1.39 percent lower on Tuesday after Wall Street shares continued to come under selling pressure, while the US dollar remained weak against the yen.
  • Further drops in oil prices and slumping shares across Asia sent Singapore stocks down almost 1 per cent on Monday.The benchmark Straits Times Index lost 29.99 points, or 0.9 per cent, to 3,294.14, with energy plays continuing to take a hit.But overall trading activity was muted, with just 974.4 million shares worth $833.6 million changing hands.
  • Global shares prices came under pressure on Monday as oil prices briefly sank to fresh 5-1/2 year lows in choppy trade, doing little to allay concerns that some energy producers and exporters could find themselves in dire straits as revenues slump.

SGX Singapore : STI Technical Analysis Outlook 15th Dec

Market Review for STI:
Share opened lower with the Straits Times Index down 16.7 points to 3,307.43. The unemployment rate in Singapore rose unexpectedly in the last quarter. Singapore Ministry of Manpower said that Singaporean Unemployment Rate rose to 2.0%, from 1.9% in the preceding quarter. It’s affected the Singapore stock market.

  • Mainboard-listed Swiber Holdings has made its first foray into the offshore oil and gas market in West Africa by securing an award from a Houston-based oil and gas company to provide engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning (EPCIC) services for an offshore field development project.
  • Singapore retail sales, seasonally adjusted, fell 1.3 per cent in October over the previous month on lower sales of cars and other vehicles.
  • XMH Holdings, a diesel engine provider for the marine and industrial sectors, has posted net profit of S$711,000 for the second quarter ended Oct 31, 2014, down 64.9 per cent for the same year-ago period.
  • The chairman of M1 ,Teo Soon Hoe, passed away after serving on its board for nearly two decades.

SGX : STI Technical Analysis Outlook 11th Dec

Market Review for STI:
Shares opened lower on with the Straits Times Index losing 6.43 points to 3,319.38. Asian stocks dropped after oil’s collapse to a five-year low triggered the biggest loss for Asian market .Traders are now eyeing an increasingly competitive battle for market share among OPEC exporters, for clues on when and at what price they would step in to help balance oil markets.

Important Factor for today:-
  • Economic growth of Singapore estimated that it will expand around 3.2 per cent next year.
  • Total transaction activity in Singapore has hit US$55.4 billion so far this year, up 30 per cent from US$42.5 billion a year ago, data from American Appraisal showed on Thursday. Transaction activity includes mergers and acquisitions (M&A), private equity, venture capital, and IPO deals.
  • Oil prices slid on Wednesday, but avoided new lows, as dealers awaited US stockpiles data for an indication of demand in the world's biggest consumer of crude.
  • Oil prices fell in Asia on Wednesday as dealers await the latest US supply report for clues about production levels, while weak Chinese and German trade data also weighed.
  • Online financial services platform iFast Corporation has made a positive debut in early trading on the Singapore Exchange today.

STI Technical Analysis Outlook for 10th Dec

Market Review for STI:
Singapore shares opened flat today with the Straits Times Index losing 1.24 points 3,318.60. Riding on Asia's buoyant economies, next year will be positive for both Singapore equity and debt markets, said OCBC Bank officials. Singapore remains an ideal choice of listing destination for many corporate in the region with its robust regulatory framework and corporate governance standards, as well as a large pool of investible funds. Singapore continues to attract listings from China, Malaysia and Indonesia.

Important Factor for today:-
  • Singapore said on Tuesday that it has finalised an information-sharing agreement with the United States that is aimed at combating offshore tax dodging. The deal will make it much easier for financial institutions in one of Asia's biggest wealth management centres to comply with US tax law.
  • ASIA-PACIFIC Strategic Investments has picked up a stake in LionGold's former Amayapampa Gold Project in Bolivia.
  • SGX had to take the rare step on Tuesday of issuing an announcement about unusual trading activity in its own shares. The bourse noted that more than 8 million of its shares had changed hands during the day. Its share price climbed 3.4 per cent to close at S$7.60, its highest since August 2013. The company, its subsidiaries or associated companies are not aware of any information which, if known, might explain the unusual trading activity.
  • Asia-Pacific Strategic Investments Limited has entered into a sale and purchase agreement. The Company has acquired 22.3% of the issued and paid-up share capital of Silvermane Investments Limited.
  • As U.S. lawmakers debate whether to free up more than the tiny amount of oil output currently eligible for export, buyers from Asia are moving in. Mitsui & Co. And Cosmo Oil illustrates the challenge for the OPEC as the highest American output in more than three decades lures the group’s traditional customers and benchmark prices tumble. OPEC members are responding by offering the deepest discounts in more than a decade, sparking speculation they’re embarking on a price war as demand slows.
